Welcome to my blog!
2023 was a big year for me. About halfway through I moved to Baltimore and started graduate school at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Two of my favorite classes this past year were Statistical Computing and Statistical Programming Paradigms and Workflows, taught by Dr. Leo Collado-Torres and Dr. Stephanie Hicks, respectively. While I knew going into my program that I was very interested in healthcare and public health, I was pleasantly surprised to fall in love with data science, especially through these two classes.
These classes provided instruction for statistical programming and excellent opportunities to frequently flex my data analysis muscles. One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2024 is that I continue dedicating time to build these skills. I am hoping that this blog will provide an outlet for me to practice communicating about data and to learn more about data science.
My more specific blog and website goals:
I will participate in Tidy Tuesday and aim to make a post using these data at least once per month.
I will work on other independent data analysis projects. I will document my work in a blog post at least every other month.
I will build another package in 2024. While the concept for the package was silly, I really enjoyed creating my first package, halfplus7, and I’d like to practice these development skills more in the new year.
I will create a page on my personal website summarizing the statistical methods I am learning in my biostatistics class.
I will continue to explore the data science field and make one post every other month noting something new I learn, like a new package, technique, or example of effective data communication.
I am really looking forward to the new year and am excited to have this space to reflect, explore, and learn. Cheers to 2024! 🥳🎉🎊
