Me presenting at the NIH’s Summer Poster Day

Last week, I completed my 10-week internship with the Graduate Data Science Summer Program (GDSSP) at the NIH’s Clinical Center. During this time, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Ron Summers’ lab, which is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence in radiology.

My project focused on leveraging automated, non-invasive CT-based biomarkers to stage liver fibrosis. Because earlier stages of liver fibrosis are often reversible, prediction models like this have the potential to streamline treatment and prevent cirrhosis.

I’m really grateful that I had the opportunity to explore the use of AI in healthcare and collaborate with such an innovative team. As I look ahead to my second year in my graduate program, I’m excited to continue learning more about machine learning methods and their applications in healthcare.
